Take time to rest and enjoy the simple things in life
“You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the seventh day you must stop working, even during the seasons of plowing and harvest.” Exodus 34:21
Today’s devotional is about “The Farmer”, where the writer emphasized that rest would come after the grain lay safe in big steel bins. The text adds, “We may not have the same sticky grunge of the farmer in our jobs, but the insistence of those times hits us with the same urgency when projects call, children cry, or looming deadlines arrive.” When our schedules are hectic and responsibilities seem to be unending, let us remember Exodus 34:21; “You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the seventh day you must stop working, even during the seasons of plowing and harvest.” The writer ends the message reminding us, “God himself initiated rest. Surely it must be valid for us as well.” Follow our Father’s lead and take your rest.
Reflection from Choosing Gratitude
Day 4 of “Choosing Gratitude” focuses on “For Beauty”. The writer says, “Stop. Breathe. Notice. Nature has a way of silencing me with her beauty, of giving me perspective. With her leaves brighter than my dim heart and her trees bigger than all my fears, I get a fresh look at my small problems.” When we rest, and pause, and take time to see nature—God’s creation and natural beauty, it allows us to be refreshed and reset to appreciate the simple things in life. Take time each day to do so.
