Stopovers on the Way
Today Kundtz shares examples from people who shared with him their experiences of incorporating stopovers in their lives. One took a weekend, another had a structured retreat, while another hopped on a bus to visit loved ones. Another had a nighttime reverie, an epiphany realizing that family, not work is top priority and a shifting was necessary. Yet and still, one individual just decided to stay home and stay put for a time period, one while working had a cancellation and stole away for the remainder of the day to the coast, and another wished for nothing but time doing nothing with family for a particular birthday. All of these are perfect examples of how we can rest and rejuvenate through stopovers. What Kundtz does encourage us to do, as he states as far as expectations for stopovers, “Leave that part open ended… become aware of the results and implications only gradually, not all at once or suddenly. To have too-specific expectations is often to be disappointed. Part of the gift of Stopping is the gradual discovery of what you were previously unaware of. The ideal attitude to take with you on your Stopover is: ‘Let's see what happens.’” Well, today I am deciding to do just that—I’m choosing today as a stopover day, and will see what comes with it.
Joshua 24:15 reads, “Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
It is important for us to follow Christ, but it is also important for us to hear Christ. Taking time to rest and not be distracted but hear Him is critical along our journey.
Small Straw Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:21-23
Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us take time to examine what God charges us to do and assess what we are doing. Let us know what is right to do and stand firm, yet also know that He will keep us and bring us through in whatever He leads us to.
Youversion Verse of the Day John 20:29
Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”
I have faith and have experienced faith and will not forget. He has come through in my life before and it’s no different now.
