Daily Devotional for October 24, 2020
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2
Yesterday I took a day off from work and enJOYed a day that was all about me, myself, and I. I loved on me, allowed myself to be loved, and loved doing what I do best—working on me and doing for me. Not only did I take time pouring into myself by taking a 7 mile walk to meditate and have some one-on-one time with God, but I spent quality time with my loved ones and time reviewing edits from my editor, working to finalize my book. Joel Osteen’s devotional this morning gave me confirmation yet again for all the decisions I have made over the past three years. Osteen writes, “God has a best, but you’ll never see it if you keep taking the average. Average is easier...but don’t take the easy way out. The bests are worth fighting for.” Think for a moment on those things that you have thought to yourself, “I give up!” Now ask yourself why. There’s a book written by Simon Sinek, which encourages people to start with thinking “why” they do something in order to BE fulfilled by what they do. Those things that you thought about, why are you doing them? Do they bring fulfillment to your life? If not, why? Is the why something you control or that of another or others? If your why you deem is worth fighting for—fight. If not, REmember these words from Osteen, “You’ll never be truly fulfilled if you keep settling for average. God already has the best in your future. Some people looking at losing a fight as defeat, but sometimes we have to lose (what’s comfortable, what’s average, what we’ve always known) to win.
Ephesians 3
I feel like Paul in Ephesians 3. God has given me grace and I know He is using me to pray that, “According to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love...and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God...who is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:16-21).
Lately I have been having discussions with others where I have said that people don’t fear failure; they fear success. In the book, “The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level“ by Gay Hendricks, he talks about the upper limits and how we self-sabotage. In the same way we self-sabotage, thinking we don’t deserve the best things in life, or dimming our light as not to outshine others, let us not soul-sabotage, as discussed by Taurean Wells in today’s message. Wells REminds us, “We should never think that exposure to God equals immunity to sin...Sometimes we are so entrenched in church stuff that we skip the basic stuff that our life with Jesus is built upon”. As my dear friend, Michelle, REminds me, every message isn’t for everybody. God created us to live in JOY, LOVE, and PEACE. If that’s not how you are living, I charge you to assess the things and people in your life, for you are REsponsible for your happiness and what God’s plans are for your life, not settling to accommodate others.
Proverbs 6:16-19
Our Father withholds nothing from us, but provides us with points to ponder for us to progress along our path with Him. 🙏🏽💚🦋🌈
No self-sabotaging or soul-sabotaging this Saturday, my friend.
